Ganesh Chaturthi

Vinayaka Chavithi is also known as Ganesh Chaturthi , Ganeshotsav which is widely celebrated among different places in India . It is celebrated as the birthday of Lord Ganesha and is celebrated on the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi of the Hindu lunar month of Bhadrapada. This year Ganesh Chaturthi is arriving on the Friday, 29th of August, 2014.

Ganesh Chaturthi is widely celebrated in Hyderabad and Mumbai Cities of India and also celebrated in , Gujarat, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Karnataka, Odisha and Chhattisgarh. Outside India, it is celebrated widely in Nepal and by Hindus in the United States, Canada, Mauritius, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Cambodia, Burma, Fiji, Trinidad & Tobago, and Guyana.

People worship Lord Vinayaka at the beginning of any work because they believe  there will be no obstacles in their work.So they also call him as "Avigna Vinayaka". People celebrate Vinayaka Chavithi for 10 days. In these 10 days people worship Lord Vinayaka with utmost belief. People prepare large variety of dishes. Lord vinayaka is very much fond of a dish called in telugu as "kudumulu". In villages people prepare Vinayaka idol with Clay and worship it.

Importance of Ganesh Laddu : People prepare large size of Laddu as "Prasadam". They feel prestige on preparing big laddus. At the end of the 10th day people do "Nimajna"( immersion of idols in lakes, rivers and the sea). On the last day of the festival the idols are taken out in a colorful and musical procession and immersed traditionally in water.
